My series 3 Apple Watch Nike suddenly turns off

multuple days now if I haven’t charged it in 24 hrs the watch will suddenly turn off and become unresponsive. When I charge it it will show plenty of charge. usually at least 50%. What in the world is going on?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), 2007 model
