Ladies and Gents-
The screen is frozen on the startup bar about 90% across. Have never seen this before.
Reset PRAM did not help.
(Beautiful light grey screen , grey apple and proper bar going across, just stuck at 90% across)
Any thoughts?

Boot into Recovery Mode and reinstall Mac OS:

This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't affect any of your own data or third party applications. But that said, you should always have a backup.
Try starting up in Safe Mode:

You may need the discs that originally shipped with your Mac, do you have them?
macjack its doing it still..... even in safemode been holding the shift key for 5 minutes
Bummer tried both Command R and Shift Command R
still getting stuck at that point
Mac Pro shows apple and black bar 3/4 complete then freezes
