Need help with pop-up window on my iMAC asking to sign into my email account. Not allowing me to do so.

1. Click  in the menu bar and choose “Force Quit”

or press command +option + esc keys on the keyboard together.

In the window that opens up, select “Mail” and click “Force Quit.

2. Relaunch Mail holding the shift key down.

Mail keeps popping up while doing other things.. I use the default mail app on my MacBook. When I am doing other work on my laptop the application continues to pop up in front of what I am doing, very annoying.Most other posts I have seen of this issue are when others do not use Mail and it asks them to sign in. In my case I use mail as my default mail application, it does not ask me to sign in. There are also no new e-mails half the time this happens.How do I stop this from happening?Thanks!

How to make Apple Mail my default email application? For many years, I've used Apple Mail as my default email application on my MacBook Pro, with a xyz@mac.com email address. Also, Safari is my default web browser. Recently, I was required (by a new job) to create a gmail.com account, and to use that exclusively for all work-related email. To keep that completely separate from my personal email, I only access the gmail account within Google Chrome. Now, Chrome has somehow hijacked my MBPro, so that any time I click on a hyperlink in the form of an email address, Chrome launches itself and take me to straight to Gmail. How do I revert to the previous stuff quo, where clicking on a hyperlink email address will launch (or switch to) Apple Mail?
