    You should contact Apple if this is a new installation. When exactly in the launch process does it quit?

    Well, I installed it and tried to launch under 3.5, didn't work, so I updated to 3.5.1 and got the same thing.

    The Final Cut Express dialog box comes up and the menu bar displays the application name for a split second and then FCE disappears and I get: "The application Final Cut Express HD quit unexpectedly." And I get the familiar Reopen, Report, and Close choices.

    I really don't think it should be doing this. It seems really strange.

    Now, I'll be getting a MacBook Pro here in about two weeks and I'll admit this update was mainly intended for it, but it should still work fine on this Power Mac G4. If I wanted/needed to reinstall 3.0, how would I go about doing that? I don't think you can just put in the 3.0 CD and install over 3.5. Would I have to trash the app?

    When exactly in the launch process does it fail? Watch the splash screen at startup.

    You have to remove FCE and all the pieces it install. Do a finder search.

    I called Apple earlier today and they had me delete the preference files. That was no success and then they told me to delete and reinstall the app. That seemed to work. I'm back in business.

    Thanks for suggesting I call them though. I probably wouldn't have thought to do that if you hadn't. So thanks for the suggestion!

    I had the exact same problem. i bought a brand new MacBook Pro, i just migrated everything (including FCE) form my old PowerBook G4 and half of my apps (including FCE) quit unexpectadly every time i opened them. this happend for about a week and started to happen less frequently. hasnt happend since 2 weeks after i purchased it.

    this may or may not apply to your situation but for me, i just let it pass and it resolved itself lol

    Yes, the error message at start-up thing for me, too. Just hit the escape key and ignored it.... thanks!!!

    I just installed FCE 3.5 on my Mac Pro. It dies and closes during launch. The splash screen shows "AUNetSend" just before it quits to finder.

    I'm running 4g ram, 2.66gh quad processor, 512 ATI graphics, plenty of HD space. Does anyone have any ideas?

    I'm having a problem with FCE failing to start up. I've trashed perfs. re installed. and the same problem. I have ProTools on my system and it works fine. I think I have a conflict with some of the plug-ins. In the splash window IKMultimedia TRacks Comp M is the last plug in that seems to plug up the works.What should I do? I'v got a new out board hard drive. Is there some way I can partision it . Thanks TC

    I have the identical problem, down to the AuNetSend message.

    I deleted preferences and reinstalled, but to no avail.

    I'm on an iMac G5 with 1GB memory.

    Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

    I had this same problem, and it turned out to be because my normal user account doesn't have admin priveleges. I logged in using the admin account, and FCE started fine. So I copied the preferences folder (~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Express User Data) over to my normal user account. Final Cut then started under that account, but the scratch disk setting were all wrong. After resetting them, it works fine, now.

    Hey,


    Awhile ago i purchased FCE HD 3.5, i went home installed it and everything went fine. As soon as i went to open it up for the first time it went to the quit unexpectedly screen. So i kept trying to open it and the same thing happened. I then trashed all my preferences and reinstalled everything. The same thing happened. Any help would be much appreciated.
