Final cut express HD will not start up?

Basically cannot open the application, even though it was successfully installed, and have used it.
I then tried deleting the application then re installing it.The loading panel appears, then is unable to locate external device. When i choose continue, final cut express pro appears briefly at the top, then quits back to finder?

These are the specs, hopefully this answers that part.
I recently upgraded my quicktime to 7.1.3. which has worked succesfully.
When you say trash preferences are you refering to Final cut express HD pref's?
Im using a sony HDR HC1E camcorder. This has also previously worked in all aspects.
Im really quite new to mac,so as sure as i can be i'm not using any plug ins.
One thing i noticed is a difference in the multi coloured spinning circle that sometimes appears. It appears with slightly bigger pixels than previously?
I need to re install now (un installed by going through a list of all locations of all components of application).
I will post again when im done and inform you of results.
Again thanks for your reply bro. Jonny.

If this was a recent OS update, try

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852

After that, trash your preferences and repair permissions.

Reboot. Disconnect all other devices except the keyboard and mouse. Plug in the camera. Turn it on in VCR mode. Launch the application. Set the correct settings for your media. Does the application see the device? If not, do not proceed further. Check the connection and try a different cable.

Hey Tom your a legend ! Your suggestions have solved my problem and i'm up and running again.
One other thing, after i have captured,im informed that 'the audio sample rate of one or more of captured files does not match sample rate on your source tape'.
How do i go about rectifying this. ?How do i know what the sample rate of the tape is ?
Should i post this as a new topic or has there already been a topic that would answer my question ?
Many thanks Jonny.

Hi Tom,

I'm having problems with getting FInal Express HD to work. Basically, it was working before but a setting was changed and I don't know how to change it back.

The problem arose when I last opened final cut and a pop up mentioned that Macintosh HD was offline. It allowed me to change the scratch so I looked through the Finder and found [Macintosh HD] and then it said Macintosh HD was online. This is when Final Cut Express stopped loading, correctly.
I think the scratch should have been set on something else because it seems to just open up the finder or do nothing at all after the initial External A/V pop up loads up.

If you purchesed FCE on your mac book pro you already know that it does not work. Well in order to fix that problem follow these simple instructions:
1. "ctrl" click the icon of FCE (Final Cut Express)
2. click "show package contents
3. click "con... Read more >tents" and then "ctrl" click the icon that says "info.plst"
4. mouse over "open with" and then click "other"
5. when the box pops up click (at the top) recomended applicaitons and change it to all aplications
6. now open it with text edit
7. when text edit opens with all of that HTML. go to "edit" (at top) then "find" then "find..."
8. in the "find" box write "AGP" then in the "replace with" box type "PCI" then uncheck "ignore case" and then click "replace all"
9. save the file and reopen FCE. It will work now

Sorry for all of the words... I tried to make it a simple for people to follow as possible. It's really not complicated.

I just upgraded to 3.5 and Final Cut Express will not launch. I've tried doing everything mentioned here, but it keeps "unexpectedly quitting" on startup.
What is going on?

Thanks!
