iPhone Music app - keeps resetting

My IPhone Music app seems to reset itself so if you have a randomised playlist or you have built a particular playlist by adding songs via the ‘Play Next’ / ‘Play Later’ function, after being inactive with the app (eg a couple of hours or overnight) - it will reset itself and not remember where it was on the playlist and sometimes go back to the start or to the start of the song. If it is a randomised playlist (eg you have it on shuffle) after the ‘reset’, it will play songs which have already played which is a bit frustrating. Could you please fix it. I don’t have a Apple Music subscription and just manually manage music via the iTunes software on a MacBook.

Hello Nikkinikkonick,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with being able to start playback in a playlist in the Music app on your iPhone as you expect. If you haven't already, please force close the Music app and restart your device as iOS clears cached data and does other system optimizations when you turn your device off and on.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, use iTunes on your Mac or PC to backup and restore your iOS software to factory settings, as this process erases the information and settings on your device and installs a fresh copy of the latest iOS software. Temporarily setup your phone as new to test your issues, and then restore your backup and test the issues again.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to factory settings
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Cheers!
