iTunes Uses 100% CPU

It seems that iTunes on my iMac is constantly running at 100% CPU. This has been happening for a while and I've tried shutting it down and restarting but no fix.

Checking Activity Monitor shows 100% CPU and 71:26:20 CPU time. iTunes version 12.7.4

I'm no expert but I don't think this is normal.

Hi erahi,

I've experienced this sort of thing now and then, and I can only surmise that iTunes was doing some kind of major housekeeping chore in the background, and that the process was running slowly on the older Mac that manages my music library. I've found that if I walk away and let it run — overnight if necessary — eventually the process will complete and CPU usage will drop back to a reasonable level.

This is not a very informative answer, but perhaps if the problem persists someone with greater expertise can join in.
