Question: HP Officejet 8500A Plus

Hi -

This printer worked perfectly over our network, including the ability to start a scan from any networked computer. When you went into System Preferences>Printers&Scanners, you saw a tab for both types of functionality. On top of that, the printer/scanner preference could auto-discover the printer with its HP printer name.

Some time back -- maybe Yosemite or El Capitain -- the scanning functionality disappeared from printers&scanners (there is only the printing tab, no scanning tab) and the preferences can only discover the printer at its physical IP address, which is how it is now listed in the printers window. From that time on -- despite reinstalling drivers, getting latest drivers from HP and Apple (including the recent driver update that came out a few months back) the problem continues.

We're forced to scan at the printer onto a SD card (for which it fortunately has a slot) and then take the SD card to the MAC that needs to use it (which fortunately still have SD slots)

I had posted about this early on when it first happened and all advice was about getting new drivers from Apple, getting new drivers from HP. Been there, done that. Currently running High Sierra and no difference.

Is there any new info that could help with this? I hate to replace a perfectly good multi-function printer because of an OS shortcoming.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

- David
