Imac not updating my photos from iCloud

My iMac is not updating my photos from the iCloud.

it has been several days since I returned from a vacation. I have had the computer on many times. It says at bottom of iPhotos that it is updating... but so far no new photos for the last 3-4 weeks have been added.

what can I do?

these photos are on both my other devices.. iPhone and iPad.

on computer

system..icloud.. iCloud Photo Library is on and iCloud Photo sharing is on.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

iCloud photos not syncing to Mac I have iCloud Photos activated on all my devices. 5 days ago iCloud photos stopped syncing with my MacBook Pro. iPad and iPhone syncing fine. Have restarted all devices, force quit Photos on Mac. But still will not sync. Some advise deactivating iCloud photos on the Mac and restarting. When I start that process I am prompted to "download" or "remove from Mac" before proceeding. If I select download, the number of photos it says it will download is not the same as what appears in my photo library. Am I risking loosing photos if I turn off iCloud photos on this one device? Do I really need to download over 5K photos? Any other advice about getting Mac to sync to iCloud photos?

iCloud Photos not syncing back to iMac It looks like in June photos stopped syncing from iCloud back to my iMac. Previously I was configured so that my iMac received all photos in iCloud but did not send photos to iCloud, only my IOS devices send photos to iCloud (I do not want so send my iMac photos to the cloud). What configuration got changed? Only the iCloud Photo Sharing box is checked in Photo iCloud Prefs. I am running the latest OS on all devices. I have about 35,000 photos so size should not be an issue. Thanks for the help.
