Load all Contacts from iPhone 7 to iCloud

I backed up my iPhone 7 to iCloud so I could to access my Contacts on my new iPad Pro. I could not see all my contacts on the iPad Pro after. I was missing the “All iPhone” contacts. How do I load all 290 “All iPhone” contacts (see in Groups on my iPhone) to my iCloud contacts before the backup? Thank you!

Thank you! That was a quick and easy fix. I made a slight modification to the instuctions from your link above:

On your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud. If you’re using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud.
  2. Turn on Contacts. Note: On my iphone, Contacts was already on so I turned it off and did not delete from my iphone. Then I turned it On again.
  3. When you're asked if you want to Merge or Cancel, tap Merge. Note: I saw the updates immediately on my iPad after this step.

All of the information stored in Contacts uploads to iCloud.

Backing up your iPhone to iCloud does not move your contacts to iCloud, it just puts them as part of the iPhone backup. If you wish to save those contacts to iCloud, you are going to have to move them to iCloud. I've always had my contacts in iCloud, so I've not had to deal with moving a group of contacts from the phone as an additional group in iCloud. I'm looking for additional information now.
