Hiding photos

I think I know the answer to this but I will ask in hopes that I am wrong. I want to hide my photos that I put in albums so that I can still see them in the albums but not own my main photos page. Can that be done?

You can only do it photos 1 and 3. But no longer in Photos 3.0 on High Sierra.

Either the Photos User Guide is wrong, or Photos 3.0 has a bug.

According to the User Guide (View photos, Live Photos, slideshows, and more in Photos on Mac - Apple Support) the photos should only be hidden from the moments:

Hide photos: Select the photo or photos, choose Image > Hide [number] Photos, then click Hide Photos.

The selected photos disappear from your moments, but are not deleted

But now, they are only visible in smart albums.
