HomePod and Echo to control smart home

I'm beginning to "build" my smart home. I've gotten several devices that are all homekit compatible. I'm going to be picking up a homepod to use as a hub for these devices.

The HomePod will be in our kitchen as the "central" device. It will be replacing a first generation Amazon Echo. The Echo will be relegated to our bedroom. My question is.... Will I be able to use both devices to control our smart home (so we can do things from our main area downstairs, but also give commands to the echo when i our bedroom)?

Thanks.

While I don't have a HomePod, I do have an Echo and have my Phillips Hue lights connected to both HomeKit and the Echo. It works fine. In fact, I make an effort to buy devices that are compatible with both.
