Password required after sleeping

My iMac will go to sleep if left unattended. Then, when I want to use it again, my computer is frozen and nothing works. The only thing I can do is to shut it off and start it up again and then I must enter my password. I must do this several times a day. It is getting pretty irritating. Everything was just fine until I updated to High Sierra.

My Mac OS is up to date. I downloaded High Sierra for my iMac on March 29th of this year and ever since my computer has had the "sleep-frozen state-shut down-start up- password problem".

Thanks for your input.
