Apple watch unlock wifi & ethernet

i have MacBook Pro 2017, running High Sierra(10.13.4). I have both Wifi and ethernet connected (using Sabrent USB Type-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter 10/100/1000 Mbps). The Apple Watch3 (OS 4.3) unlock feature only works when Ethernet is unplugged?!?!

Confirmed, if unplug ethernet adapter, Apple Watch unlock works consistently, but ceases when ethernet is plugged in.

I have already tried:

- confirmed both devices are on same iCloud account

- rebooting all devices

- disabling and reenabling Apple Watch unlock on MacBook Pro

- Logging into and out of iCloud account on MacBook Pro

How to work around this issue?
