Recovery Partition

On a Mac, does the recovery partition get overwritten EACH time you wipe the drive OR upgrade the OS? For example, I have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. If I want to reinstall the SL, obviously, I will use that OS to perform the installation. Most likely, I will use either the DVDs or recovery partition to perform the installation.

Lets say, I wipe the drive and I perform a fresh install of Lion or Mavericks OR I perform an upgrade to Lion or some other OS version. Does the recovery partition which get overwritten with a newer OS X?

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

When a drive is erased and reformatted using an external boot device with OS and if the internal drive had a Recovery HD, it would be erased and gone.

If you restart into the Recovery HD of Lion or above, and reinstall the same version of OS you have, the Recovery HD gets overwritten with that same version.

If you upgrade the OS with a newer version, the Recovery HD again gets overwritten with the newer OS Recovery HD.

If the drive is erased and formatted, the OS install of Lion or above will write a Recovery HD during the install process.
