How to globally change "use header names as labels" in a Numbers document

In the Numbers preferences there is an option to use either cell designations (like "B2") or cell names ("Name2") in formulas.

But there is no way to toggle from using all one style to using all the other style.

I started a document using cell names in formulas, realized my error, then switched to cell designations, so now I have half the document formulas using cell names, half using designations.

Is there some way to globally change all cell references from one to the other?

And before you say "go to preferences and untoggle the "cell references" check box, I've done that like a dozen times. It's probably yet another bug, but maybe there's a way to "select all" then toggle?

Thanks,

Number 3.6.2, OS 10.11.6

Interesting. I have never seen it get stuck halfway. Maybe someone else has seen this. In my experience it either uses the header names or it does not and, if you change the preference, it converts all of them to whichever way you set it. I have Numbers 4.3.1 installed so I cannot check out any problems that might be unique to Numbers 3.6.2.

Hi Wayne,

Maybe you missed the part of my post where I said pretty clearly "And before you say "go to preferences and untoggle the "cell references" check box, I've done that like a dozen times." It doesn't work, that's the problem, and I'm seeking help on how to get it to work, is there some kind of document "preference" I can delete or reset?

I'm the one who should apologize, I'm just starting to dig deeper into spreadsheets. There was no "error", here's what happened:

When I linked in a formula from one "sheet" to a cell in another "sheet", the formula was showing the "sheet"name, not the cell name. So the formula would look like "(Sheet1B2 + Sheet2B3)". The issue is that the sheet names are so long that they don't fit in the formula window, and I was misinterpreting this as "(CellnameColumn/CellnameRow)".

Problem "solved".
