Screen flashes on logon window

Good day.

I have a MBP (15-inch, Late 2016), 2.9GHz i7, 16GB, Intel HD Graphics 530/1536MB RAM.

Occasionally, when I open the cover I will be greeted by either a reduced logon screen (upper left corner) at about 75% of screen, or a flashing display, whereas it flashes on and off until I close and reopen the cover. I have tried the regular fixes like the resets, cleared caches, etc but with no success.

I'm at the point where I might consider a full factory reset of the laptop, but before I do I thought reaching out to this forum might offer any new suggestions.
