Safari blankpage Macbook Pro

Does anyone know anything about the white/blank window in the picture below? It comes up whenever I open a new Safari window on my MacBook Pro and the only way to close it is to quit Safari. It's not an extension issue because I don't have any installed on my Safari browser. It's not related to Sophos or Malwarebytes either because I installed them after the problem had started occurring. It's been ongoing for several weeks now. So far I have run Malwarebytes and tried to repair permissions as well as cleared my Safari cache. However, the problem is still there. I'm concerned among other things that it may be a security risk. Can anyone identify it or tell me how to remove/stop it?

1. Sophos is an unwanted PUP (Possibly Unwanted Program).

I would strongly recommend uninstalling it.

2. Delete com.apple.Safari.plist file and test.

Empty the Trash.

Quit all applications.

Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.

Select "Library" from the drop down.

Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on it and select "Move it to Trash".

Restart and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

If this doesn’t help, “Put Back” the com.apple.Safari.plist

Right click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select “Open”.

Right click on the com.apple.Safari.plist and select “Put Back”.

Select ”Replace” from the dialog when it appears.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Do you have the latest version JDK installed?

Have you gone to this site? https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8189714

This is a test.

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.

Plug it back in. Power the router on. Wait until all lights are lit properly. It will take a while.

Restart the computer.

Start up in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, click the “Restart” button at the bottom.

I setup a new user account and used it to surfing around some and the problem didn't occur. However sometimes (rarely) the problem doesn't occur right away and it may take anywhere from 15 mins to an hour or more to occur. This could be the case.

Strangely back in my usually user account it doesn't seem to be occurring right now. Therefore I will post 2 EtreCheck Reports. The first is from a check I ran on 4/18. The problem was actively occurring at that time. The second is from the one I just ran

The only odd thing is that tried removing Java 10 from my system using the below in terminal

sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin

sudo rm -fr /Library/PreferencePanes/JavaControlPanel.prefPane

sudo rm -fr ~/Library/Application\ Support/Java

However, when I run java -version in terminal I see the below

java version "10" 2018-03-20

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.3 (build 10+46)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.3 (build 10+46, mixed mode)

I've scoured the internet but can't find a solution to uninstall it. Maybe this issue is causing the trouble.

Apr 27, 2018 11:17 PM in response to dominic23

I ran the commands to remove Java from my system. Therefore, I should not have the latest version installed although when check to see if it is still there using java -version command I get the following response

java version "10" 2018-03-20

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.3 (build 10+46)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.3 (build 10+46, mixed mode)

Today, I was tired of dealing with this issue so I deleted the partition and reinstalled macOS High Sierra. However, the issue has just started back. I do not have java, malwarebytes, or any of my IDEs installed. Does anyone have any idea what this reoccurring issue could be. There is one other thing, if forgot to mention but I share the wifi router with my roommate. Below is a copy my EtreReport

EtreCheck version: 4.2.1 (4C020)

I don't know much about wifi setup other than managing my own network.

I use it Safari Technology Preview regularly and I haven't noticed any of those issues.

You don't have to try it, If you are not comfortable with it.

Because standard troubleshooting steps do not help, I would wait until next macOS update is released.

That release may come with bug fixes.

May 1, 2018 6:31 AM in response to dominic23

I was using the regular Safari but as of this message have switched over to Safari Technology Preview. However, I just thought it might be a security issue or intrusion because it seems to be so unique(I can't find anything remotely similar online) and not necessarily dependent on what programs I have installed.

Additionally, javascript is and was enabled.

Thanks for all your help and advice dominic23 as well as Eric Root. I started using STP and the issue hasn't reoccured over the last 3 days. However, it may to early to say that the issue is fixed because I think there may have been periods where it went several days without occurring before. I would still love to get an explanation for what caused the issue but my MacBook warranty has expired. If the issue comes back can either of you suggest another option I can take to fix the problem or maybe I service I should use to fix it.
