Safari blankpage Macbook Pro

Does anyone know anything about the white/blank window in the picture below? It comes up whenever I open a new Safari window on my MacBook Pro and the only way to close it is to quit Safari. It's not an extension issue because I don't have any installed on my Safari browser. It's not related to Sophos or Malwarebytes either because I installed them after the problem had started occurring. It's been ongoing for several weeks now. So far I have run Malwarebytes and tried to repair permissions as well as cleared my Safari cache. However, the problem is still there. I'm concerned among other things that it may be a security risk. Can anyone identify it or tell me how to remove/stop it?

Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Accessibility

Uncheck the box beside "Never use font sizes smaller than" and test.

Remove Sophos and test.

Hi Thanks but it's not Sophos the problem started 3 weeks before I installed Sophos and 2 weeks before I installed Malwarebytes.

I uninstalled Sophos as well as removed com.apple.Safari.plist and I'm still experiencing the issue.

Yes, I experience the issue regardless of whether I'm running the VPN or not.

No Force Quit followed by relaunching Safari while holding the shift key doesn't seem to work either.

So I don't have any extensions installed and my internet plugin folder is empty. I installed Java shortly after setting up user account. I need it for my Java IDE.

I deleted the partition and reinstalled OS software. However the problem continues to happen. Does this have the feel of an intrusion or other security issue?

Safari > Preferences > Security > Web Content:

Make sure "Enable JavaScript" is enabled.

You are welcome. Have you tried disabling the Safari extension in Safari/Preferences/Extensions?
