Unable to sync iPod Touch with iTunes

I've been unable to sync my iPod Touch for a couple of weeks now.

I'm on 12.7.4 of iTunes on my Windows 10 lap top and iOS 11.3 on my iPod Touch.

I can sync an old Gen 5 Classic iPod happily enough but when I connect the iPod Touch I'm getting a message on the screen asking if I want this device to access photos and videos. It doesn't matter if I allow or Don't allow, the sync doesn't start.

Just for the record, I'm NOT trying to do anything with my photos or videos, all I want to do is sync my iPod with iTunes so that it loads adds some new music I've downloaded.

I've raised a query on one of the communities here but not had much response so far. I've tried the Reset All Settings option but that didn't help so my next step is going to be to the nuclear option of Erase All Content and Settings and take the iPod back to basics.

If that doesn't work, I'm wondering about de-installing then re-installing iTunes on my laptop. I've never done this and I'm not particularly geeky or tecchie so just wondering how easy (or not) this is?

If anyone has any suggestions about what I might be able to try about the above message too, that'd be much appreciated. I have had a couple of suggestions from people on these communities, but nothing has help so far. I'm worried that "something" has happened during one of the upgrades to corrupt either my iPod or laptop.

Thanks in advance

Martin

Check what build of iTunes you are running via Help > About iTunes. The current build is 12.7.4.80 which might not be suggested to you if you're running 12.7.4.76. See iTunes - Download iTunes Now - Apple to download it. See the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for tips on a full tear down and rebuild. I'd try both of these first before going down the erase and restore route with the device. It would be worth giving it a reboot, but you've probably done that already.
