Is there a method to recover accidentally deleted text messages.

Only if you made a backup.

My iCloud says it backed up messages but I synced and messages did not appear.
Then you weren't backing up messages as part of your backup, or you made the backup AFTER you deleted the messages. In either case the messages are now gone.
