iMessages not activating

Hello there.

so I toggled my iMessages off earlier; And when I went to turn them back on, it shows an error of activating. I noticed my phone number was grey and there was a spinning wheel trying to verify it- so I went to my profile and had to re-add my phone number for some reason.

After that, I updated to the latest software, tried all the tricks I’ve seen on forums (airplane mode, resetting, turnings phone off and on)- but it’s just sitting there trying to activate (also FaceTime). I’ve never had this issue before, so I tried calling my provider and they said it’s not an issue on their end as everything else works fine.

Is anyone else having this issue or know how to definitively fix it? Thanks in advance

Hello FeMaiden,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are encountering an error when activating iMessage on your iPhone. Being able to send and receive iMessages is important, and I would be happy to help.

The following support article contains some additional troubleshooting steps to try for this issue:

If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support

Keep in mind that you need SMS messaging to activate your phone number for use with iMessage and FaceTime. If you are unable to send and receive SMS or MMS right now, you may need to contact your carrier again. It can also take up tot 24 hours to activate iMessage and FaceTime. Toggling off either iMessage or FaceTime in Settings during this time frame can cause the process to restart.

If you're still encountering an issue after trying those steps, contact Apple via the link below:
