How to remove two items stored on my desktop

I don't know how these two items got on my Desktop.

But I'm guessing that they are two huge files, and maybe that is why my computer is running so slowly.

I don't know how to remove them. Can I remove them?????

Can you give me very specific instructions on what to do? I am 79.

I am using MacOS High Sierra

Version 10.13.2

They are your hard drives and showing them on the desktop would not cause your computer to run slowly.

You can have them not display by going to Finder, click on the Preferences menu in Finder, then click General in the bar at the top of the Preferences window and remove the check marks in front of Hard Disks and External Disks.
