I have a 2012 MB Pro, and am having more and more trouble with start from either sleep or start from restart or complete shut down. It is slow, slow, slow. I've checked the startup items showing, and there are none. I still have OSX 10.10.6, since High Sierra breaks Adobe CS6.
I have had this issue since Yosemite.

Go step by step and test.
1. Reset PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
2. Reset SMC. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
Choose the method for: “On Mac notebooks with non-removable battery”
3. Start up in Safe Mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/ph14204
To restart normally click the “Restart” button at the bottom.
4. If this doesn’t help, please run EtreCheck and post the report here if you can .
Click “Free Download” button, open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.
Click on the bouncing EtreCheck icon in the Dock.
“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.
Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” .
Paste it into the reply.
