iPod Classic wiped and ‘connect to power’ screen

This is a long story, but am not sure whether my iPod is dead, unsalvageable or just crazy.

First it would not turn on, respond to the hold and 8 second thing, then it finally said ‘Connect to power’ but only said ‘charging please wait’ for hours when connected to a PC (nothing happened when connected to a wall charger). Then after two hours get the white screen with ‘Do not disconnect’.

Then Windows said USB not recognized or has malfunctioned, but later it did recognize it. Apple support referred me to BestBuy to determine whether it was a dead battery or logic board issue. Went to BestBuy and it turned on, acted normal for one minute and then the ‘Connect to Power’ icon came up again.

BestBuy said it’s too old and there’s nothing they can do. Came home and it turns on, acts fine, plays a few songs, then back to the ‘Connect to Power’ screen. I tried the 8 second hold thing and get the Welcome screen and two thirds green charged on the battery icon - BUT! Now there’s ‘No music’.

I plug it back into the PC and Windows first refers to it as ‘Removable disk’ then later shows the iPod graphic. Itunes doesn’t register it, however so I can’t transfer any songs. Then, iPod screen says ‘Connected - Eject before’ and goes back to Apple screen, Welcome screen and back to Connect to Power.

Can anyone here tell me what’s going on? Is it fixable?

Many thanks in advance for any advice. User uploaded file
