First why do we now have to pay for free apps to update them. And second it wont allow me to update it keeps saying my card is declined
You should not be charged for updating free Apps.
1. Remove your card details from Settings and then continue to download/update free apps.
2. Or put in the correct card details and then continue to download free apps. You will be charged a minor one time fee of $1, but not be charged again and again if you'll download free apps.
Go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Click on your Apple ID > View Apple ID > Payment Information > Select None then click on Done.
You should be good to go.
The above method is the only method to remove card details from iPhone. If it doesn't let you delete, there should be some problem with the Account Settings. I would request you to contact Apple Support.
It doesn’t give me an option to remove my card. I have 14 updates and it keeps asking me to log in and then update my card info and then says declined.
