Why cant i download free apps

Just recently I can not download any free apps from the app store without putting in my apple id, which i do but it then prompts me to a billing screen. I try to remove the card bc i dont want one on there anymore and it says you have to have a payment option in. I just want to be able to update my apps and download free ones. Please help

If you have an option to change your payment info to "None", then you can do that. Otherwise, you must have a payment method on file. You can use an iTunes card to do this. A Credit Card is not required:

I think you need to have some kind of payment information on there if you want to use your Apple ID. It does not need to be a card that has too much balance in it. Just any valid account card or iTunes card will do.
