Question: Time Machine icon on menu bar (prep)

When I plug my backup drive into my Mac, a unfamiliar icon appear on the menu bar. What does it mean? After a restart it disappears. When I plug backup drive back it appears again.

After some investigation I found that it is a plugin I have through hammerspoon. Thanks for your direction.

Hmmm. Do you have a third party app on your machine managing TimeMachine?? This does not appear to be the default:
