migrating from Aperture to Photos retain Faces

I recently migrated from Aperture to Photos 3.0. I specifically used the method of opening the Aperture file via Photos Iessentially converting the data file) to retain Faces data. Generally it went very smoothly, except for some reason a significant amount of the of the Faces didn't migrate. I can still open the data file in Aperture and see that the Faces are still tagged correctly, but the same picture in Photos shows the people as unnamed. Both applications are sharing the same data file, so why some and not others? I have not seen a pattern. I have a full backup and can re-do the process if necessary. Any suggestions?

1 - Aperture and Photos do not share a datafile - there are two totally separate libraries, one for Aperture and one for Photos

2 - this user tip may help with the migration - Notes on Migrating an Aperture Library from Aperture to Photos for Mac

and these links (while for iPhoto still give more information on the migration process including how they libraries what the same data while being seperate libraries by using hard links) -- : Links to User tips re migrating from iPhoto to Photos

Photos is creating a new library from your Aperture Library.

InItially, after migrating my Aperture 3.6 library to Photos, I could see a Pople album for each person I named in Aperture.

But then Photos will start its own face recognition and scan for faces. The face detection algorithm in Photos differs from the face detection in Aperture, so the frames around the automatically detected faces may differ from the frames detected by Aperture or the manually marked faces, so now a few faces may be showing again as unnamed. Wait for the faces scan to finish. You may need to add a few faces back manually, once the scan is complete. Use the "Confirm additional faces" option for each person album, once the scan has finished.

Before I migrated my Aperture Library I opened each album for each person and assigned a keyword with the name of the person. This made it easier to fix the unnamed faces quickly in Photos. I just needed to search with a smart album "Keyword is ..." and "person is not ...".

I just created a small test library in aperture with seventy named faces to test this again.

At first, I saw all named faces in Photos after the migration. And now primarily the faces I added manually in Aperture (where Aperture did not find a face) are being replaced by new, unnamed faces in Photos. But there are quite a few good suggestions, when I open an album for a named person and click "Confirm additional faces".

Question-is there a way to see all the unamed People?

This option has been removed in Photos 3.0. The previous version of photos had a list of unnamed faces, and we could reject and remove automatically detected faces we do not care about. Because we can no longer delete automatically detected faces to make the list of unnamed faces manageable, this list would be pretty useless. It would show thousands of strangers that cannot be weeded out and it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack to look there for people we want to name. In aperture we could restrict the faces album to the project we are currently working on, but Photos will always show all named faces.

You can only search for photos that do not have a single named person, but this search will include all photos without a any person at all.

Use a smart album with the rule "Person is not %"
