Problem deleting specific history from safari

My Safari history records puts some browsing history at the top of the dropdown list that I am trying to delete but I can't delete them. Somehow my MacBookPro (running HighSierra 10.13.3) thought it was Friday Jan 4 2041 for a day, and I looked a small number of websites. Now when I click on 'history' in the Safari Menu bar, the dropdown menu always starts with that day's browsing history. When I 'show all history', select those entries, and try to delete them, nothing happens. I can't find any combination of keystrokes that gets rid of them. But other history entries can be deleted as normal. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Thanks.

Holding shift key and selecting all items in history can be deleted in one stroke or if an individual item is to be deleted right click on it and click on delete .

Enter in user library macOS Sierra: Library folder

Delete the contents of folders Caches , Cookies , Saved application state into the trash .

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.


Quit the application.


Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Safari. Move the files that start with History to your desktop.


Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the files from the desktop.


If the application is the same, return the files to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.


This may require a reset of some other Preferences.
