Noise Reduction

Hello,

I'm looking for a plugin to remove the unwanted noise of my voiceovers in Logic Pro X.

I have found iZotope's RX 6 Elements, Soundsoap and CrumplePop's Audio Denoise.

Could you suggest me any other in the market ? ( I would like to try them all to see which is the best for my needs )

Thanks

I use RX6 and NS1 from Waves. I use RX6 for anything sophisticated and NS1 is great for real simple and constant noise. NS1 is just a single slider and does a good job but can color the sound significantly in my opinion if you push it too much. RX6 lets you really dial in on the specific problem. BTW if you buy NS1, don't pay more than $29. It goes on sale for that routinely.

Good luck!

At least in my case, I take my initial track, I do my edits for errors and such. I use a dog training clicker to show a sharp spike in the waveform that's easy to spot. I can usually do my edits without listening. I do a bounce in place to get a clean track since Izotope only imports the entire file. I've put in a request to take the track after edits instead of the raw file, we shall see what happens with that. I move the bounced track to Izotope using shift-w. I then run the phase plugin just with the adaptive phase rotation. I'm not sure what the reason is, but from what I found empirically myself and from others reports, is especially those of us with deeper voices, there's a lot of phase rotation. This won't change the sound, just makes normalizing better. I then normalize (-3 dBFS) usually here but can be back in logic. I send it back to logic with opt-cmd-s. I usually apply a little eq and a little compression. At this point it depends on what noise is there. I like to use the RX 6 Voice De-noise and Mouth De-click plugins in logic. This is also where I'd apply NS1 from Waves if needed. I do all this by ear to make sure I strike a balance of doing the best job of eliminating any noise that may have been present and not noticeably affecting the read. I only use them if needed though since my booth is usually -65 to -70 dBFS. If there are just a few breaths that need to be taken down a bit, then I use the noise gate and play with the reduction setting to essentially apply downward expansion to not eliminate but just reduce those. If it's really bad then I'll send it back to Izotope to use the De-breath there. Often times I'll send it back to Izotope anyway, just to run the Waveform Stats. Then I bounce the finished product for delivery.

That's what I've found works for me over time. Take a look, see what you think, and play with it as needed to see what works best for you since everyone approaches things a little differently. As they say, your results may vary. 😉
