how do i un-sync icloud from my desktop without losing any data on my desktop

Hello,

I keep quite a bit of music on my desktop. the desktop is synced to icloud, so my icloud storage is always full.

how do I unsync icloud without losing anything I have on my desktop?

I would like to continue doing this as I have an iPhone and iPad also. I did something recently and now my Desktop and Documents folders are on iCloud. There is also a Downloads folder showing up as being on iCloud but it is empty. There is another Downloads on my local drive and it has data in it; it looks right. Getting out of iCloud How do I stop using iCloud? I suddenly, after years of not using it, getting notifications that I am running out of space. For the past 2 days, my modem has been transferring my info into the cloud, and I don't want ANY of it there! If I try to log out, it takes away the information from my desktop calendar and I need that info to stay on the iMac. HELP!
