iPhone 6s Plus setup W/Out SIM card?

Is there a way to setup without a SIM card installed?

If not can I use the one in my new phone to do it with out messing up the setup or my Apple ID?

An iPhone requires a sim card for activation. You cannot setup the iPhone without one.

The sim card does not need to be tied to an active service plan, but it does need to be functional.

If the iPhone is locked to a particular cell / mobile carrier the sim card needs to be from that carrier. Otherwise any sim card from any carrier will work.

The sim card has no relation to the Apple ID. You can use the one in your current phone just for activation, and you can remove it immediately after activation is complete.

It should not mess up anything on your current iPhone.

You can use your sim card, just be sure to remove it after activation and before you log in with his Apple ID.

If downloading any Apps, make sure its with his Apple ID.

Thank you!! This is an unlocked phone that I am giving to my dad (that is NOT techie!). I had to set up his Apple ID for him and I cleared off my info and wanted to have some apps installed and ready to go when I mail it to him. That way he just need to go in to AT&T and port his number and he is good to go!
