Iphone 7 recording and microphone issues

Iphone 7, with very latest OS.

Issues: When i go into voice memo, I can't hit record button. It's grayed out. I try to facetime with someone and it immediately cancels. Place a call and the precipitant can't hear me. Try to record video and there is no audio. Clearly something is wrong with the recording features. Also, if I go into settings--> accessibility and try to turn on or off "Noise Canceling" that selection, where it SHOULD be, is not even in the menu. Just shows Mono Audio and then that's the last option. Strange.

I did a FULL reset, including settings, of the phone and restored from icloud. Updated to most current OS, etc.....and still same issue. So I'm starting to think this isn't software related. Is there anything else I need to check? Oh, I also checked under privacy to see if microphone was in there. Nope. Nothing at the moment.

I'm open to suggestions. I'm comfortable replacing the microphone hardware; however, I want to determine if that is what is bad first, before I spend the money and time.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2), 27 inch, 1 TB HD

Thanks for the suggestion, MrBill3. I went through those steps. I was also chatting with support specialists for quite sometime. They ran various tests and I even sent them logs, etc. I did a FULL reset of the phone. Once with restore from iCloud then reset again and 2nd time did NO restore from icloud just a clean install. Neither resolved the issue. Support folk said this is a known issue to Apple and they are "working" to provide an update to solve it. In the mean time, I have no ability to use the phone nor record any memos nor videos. So my iPhone 7 is now a text only device. Rough but not much can be done at this point. Odd.....

I’m having the same issues as OP.

I looked up the same article Mr. Bill sent. One of the steps says to check to see if you can hear yourself on a voice memo... my phone won’t even let me record a voice memo!

The record button is disabled... so is speaker when I make a phone call. Can’t hear anyone when I make a call, they can’t hear me, can’t record sound on a video (doesn’t matter the app), Siri doesn’t hear me...

Hope no one don’t has an emergency, I don’t think you can text 911...

I have same issue.

Just after update mic stopped working.

visited apple store. they ask paid replacement.

But if you google " iOS 11.3 mic issue " you will get at least 15 news articles saying that this is one of the problem is created by iOS 11.3 update which breaks the one of hardware component in iphone 7.

And many more complains are arising.

See this link of CNET report.

I’m assuming it’s not widespread. I did an apple chat in and made arrangements to send my phone in for free repairs. After they opened it, I was told that they could not fix it for free because the liquid strips in my phone had been triggered. Not sure how that happened especially when the damages were not liquid related but had every symptom of 11.3 damage. They eventually fixed it for free.

This is typical case of Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+ manufacturing defect of weak micro soldering of Audio IC on Logic board. With the aging of iPhone (above year and half) weak connection between IC and logic board gets disconnected that lands these kind of problems.

See this live example of repair in this video.

iPhone 7 / Plus Audio IC U3101 Repair stuck on Apple Logo Slow Boot No Sound 338S00105 - YouTube

Just reballing of Audio IC solves this problem.

Now days micro soldering repair shops getting lots of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7+ these kind of cases.

This is iPhone 7/7+ signature design failure, which apple never accepted.

See this video iPhone 7 Signature Failures--Error 4013/BB_PMU, Audio ic and the Fault Line - YouTube

Apple is not a customer friendly company anymore.

So better is not to wait for help from apple.

My suggestion is go to repair shop who repairs with micro soldering.

You can search on ebay also for mail repair service.

I am having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM, its driving me crazy. I have the 7+, this happened to me literally from one moment to the other, i took it to the apple store: the genius bar and they could not figure it out. They said to swap the phone it would be $349, due to being out of warranty. Basically told me i need a new phone. UGH, Were you able to fix this? Im thinking i will have to replace the microphone??
