Mac screen lights up 50% of the time

My MacBook Air screen only turns on half of the amount of times I open it. Sometimes to get it to turn on I press the power key, only occasionlly working. Isn’t there a set of keys I can hold to toggle the OS? Thanks

Go step by step and test.


1. Reset NVRAM/PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761

2. Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.

3. Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Once in Safe Mode, click the “Restart” button at the bottom.
