Error code 8072 trying to copy groups of files from external HD to another?

I started to copy (and even cut) and paste files from 1 external HD to a 2nd external HD. Drives are formatted NTFS. If I select single files, 1 at a time, I don't see the error (unless I simply lucked out and didn't copy 1 causing the error).

I have checked "info" on files and made sure they were not locked just in case that was the problem but it made no difference.

So...what do I do to fix so I can continue to copy large blocks of files? I have 2 drives - 4 TB each - so can't imagine doing it 1 file at a time!

Mac mini (Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I am not familiar with the way this is actually implemented, but copy/paste would in principle involve the system clipboard, whereas dragging shouldn't - it should just pass the proper arguments directly to underlying file routines.

Copy/paste for files and folders in the Finder is something that was not common in the Mac for many years.

Classical MacOS never had this. Dragging was the official way.
