master slide edits not updating

Am I missing a setting? And are the following related? I am not in collaboration mode.

--I have edited a master slide but slides based on that master retain previous settings. I must select those slides manually and rechoose the new master.

--When batch dragging and dropping objects (photo), (not directly onto a specific slide) Keynote creates and puts them onto "default" slides whose master is not of my choosing. I have dropped them in different locations, under different masters, but they still show that one master slide underneath. To the above, I have tried to edit that master in order to not have the manual changes. The edit doesn't make a difference.

---is there something like when a word processing program asks if you want a paragraph style to be based on previous style? Is that what I'm missing?

It is a very sticky master. I'll keep checking settings but hope you guys are faster!

This is the procedure you will need to use when adding new images to a presentation that create new slide:

select the images you want using a Finder window
drag and drop on to the Navigator (the side panel on the left)
the new slides will be selected, so go to Inspector > Format > Slide Layout
click the change slide master button
select the slide master required in the choose a master box

Now to find out why changing masters does not update existing slide masters.

I'm confused at what you are asking, so this is a guess:

Altering a slide master, (e.g. changing the slide background), and then saving only that Keynote file will not allow new or other Keynote files to use the altered slide master.

To have a slide master that has been altered to be available to all presentations, the slide master has to be saved in a new theme so that it appears in the theme chooser and Slide Master chooser. (File > Save Theme).

Thank you so much. Yes, it works manually. Now to find out why changing masters does not update existing slide masters. Always an education!!

I especially enjoy reading your help in this category and have learned a lot.
