The IMAP server "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" doesn't support (null) authentication

Recently, on my 1st generation iPad, the Mail app deleted all of my mailboxes. I tried adding back the mailboxes, but a server error occurred. I went into settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars and found that my password field was blank. I filled it in, tapped Done, and a dialog box popped up that said:

"The IMAP server "apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com" doesn't support (null) authentication. Please check your account settings and try again."

I don't know what these "settings" are, and when I went back to my mail app, the same server error occurred.

In case you were wondering, the reason I'm still using this iPad is because it has tons of old photos and my iCloud storage is full. Might there be a way to transfer photos onto my laptop? It has a terabyte of storage and I already have iTunes installed on it.

Thanks in advance!

You can transfer photos several ways, described here: Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

Or you can install an app such as Google Photos and upload them there. Or upthere.com. Dropbox.com. box.com. shutterfly, etc.

Regarding your full iCloud storage, you can increase it to 50 GB for 99¢ a month, with no long term commitment. That should be affordable for your valuable photos.
