Virus alert while accessing a website

Why do I get(twice) a virus alert, which I think its from Apple/Program. It warns me of a virus or unfriendly site. The site is USA Today(news agency).

The address bar races into a site from India, then I get the big red alert, with red letters, white background.

Please advise asap.

Thank you,

Josie

Anything in a Mac browser that pops a dialog with the word "Virus" or "Call Apple Support" is a scam.

Most news sites ensure that the first level stories are scam and malware free, but at further depth, you are increasingly at risk from the huge amount of advertisements, and storylines designed to draw you into these scams. CNN, Fox, USAToday, etc. all have this issue.
