Apple TV 4K Upscaling

Hi All,

Was hoping for some advice on Apple TV 4K format/resolution settings. I watch a lot of 1080p and lower resolution content on my Apple TV and it is hooked up to a high end video processor that does an amazing job upscaling to 4K and passing the upscaled image on to my SONY A1E OLED TV. I was thinking of setting the format on my Apple TV 4K to 1080p SDR (and have match content - frame rate and dynamic range - turned ON). I believe this will allow the Apple TV to upscale up to 1080p and have the video processor upscale to 4K.

Of course, if I intend to watch 4K native content, I would change the format from 1080p SDR to 4K SDR (and leave match content turned on). This would prevent the Apple TV 4K from downscaling native 4K content to 1080p.

Any thoughts/recommendations on the above?

Thank you!

Apple TV 4K, iOS 11.3.1, null

I think you are thinking far too deep and likely doing a lot of messing to achieve little if nothing at all.

Firstly, you can't expect 1080p SDR with match content because that's contradictory.

Secondly, having scaling done twice when it can be done once is not a best option.

Finally, regardless of how good your video processor is, there isn't really enough difference between 1080p and 4k to start comparing different scaling processes.
