With File Sharing ON and with Full Permission to Read and Write to Them How Do You See the External Drives (USB, Firewire or Thunderbolt) in the Other Macs?

Hi. When all file sharing is ON on all the macs on the network, how do you see on your Mac the external drives as well (USB external drives especially)?

Thank you.

You need to setup the External Volume (or subfolder of) as a Shared Folder.

On the Machine with the external drive:

Open the "Sharing" System Preferences

Click on "File Sharing" in the list on the left

Then under the area labeled "Shared Folders:" click the plus sign button.

Then is the file dialog shown select the folder (or volume) you want to add as a Shared Folder.

Click "Add"

Repeat until you have add all those you want to be shared.

Once you completed the above you should be able to connect to the shared folders (or volume) from you other machines. Note you may need to ensure you login to the share with the correct user credentials which are also setup it the Sharing PreferencePane. Finally you also may need to adjust folder/file permission to allow the user the wanted access. read/write etc.

Hi. I got to revive the wifi (by SMD workstation hot air reflow) of my old Late 2009 iMac. I'm not using the CAT 5 cable anymore to network this iMac with the other iMac (Late 2015 5K). The Late 2015 5K now again, can't see the Flashdrive. Is there a way for the Late 2015 iMac to see the external USB drives if it's networked using just wifi?

Thank you. Happy Mother's Day.
