Manually Entered DNS Apple Watch

When I manually configure the DNS setting on my iPhone (Example 9.9.9.9 or 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8) my Apple Watch Series 3 LTE is unable to connect to WiFi when my phone is off or in airplane mode. If remove the WiFi connection and set it to automatic DNS that obtained from the router The watch connects without any issues.

I have have also tried this on a non LTE series 3 and had the same issue. Just wonder if anyone else has experience this issue? It seems like the trouble just stated happen with the latest iOS 11.3.1 update.

Thank you

You are seeing a problem when you have manually configured one of the Open DNS sources on your phone so it ignores the router’s DNS. Try setting the Open DNS address into your router’s settings and let both devices get their DNS configuration by DHCP from the router.

Setting it in my router would most likely work. The issue is I don’t want everything on the network using the public DNS sites. iOS does give you the option of configuring devices individually and this is a great feature. It’s just strange the settings do not work properly on the watch. This didn’t seem to be an issue in the past so it maybe a bug that needs to be fixed.
