Macintosh SE CRT issue

I recently picked up a original mac SE and i'm experiencing a strange issue. The crt does not have consistent linearity. Say you get yourself a circle, it looks normal when its in the center of the screen, now move the circle to the left of the screen and it turns into a oval. For reference i have a file and the trash can on both sides of the screen, see how thick the file icon is compared to the skinny trashcan? Also notice how "Hard disk" is not in the center of the screen, its offset to the right. Any ideas?

A similar symptom is mentioned by Larry Pina in his book The Dead Mac Scrolls (ISBN 0-940235-25-0), p. 159. A probable cause in that case was a high-frequency capacitor on the analogue board. However, it may be something entirely different with your Macintosh SE. If of interest, it should be possible to find the book in question through an online bookshop.

Please note that all work inside a compact Mac is very dangerous because of the high voltages involved, and must be performed by qualified personnel only. Charges can remain in various components even after the computer has been switched off and disconnected from the mains. Mains/line and high-voltages are dangerous, and even some lower levels can be. So, do not try to carry out any adjustments or repairs yourself. Instead, ask a specialist for help (perhaps a computer technician with a television set repair background).
