Automatically Adjust Brightness won't turn off

I work with my laptop on the train. When there is sun, brightness = 100%. When there is not, I can't see anything. The setting check box does nothing. Am I alone on this one? Is this a known issue?

ambient light sensor issues Hi Guys, I have purchased Macbook pro M1 and occasionally (once a few days) having issues with light sensor so that in relatively bright and sunny room the brightness level of the screen suddenly goes from 80% down to 5% or so I can barely see anything. Closing and opening back up the lid seems to solve the problem, or rebooting the laptop as well. I am wondering if I should bring the laptop to Apple Store so the guys can check the sensor itself or it might be something else. Cheers

Can't Adjust Brightness The brightness toggle from the Control Centre is greyed out and won't let me adjust the brightness. I can change it from settings and using the touch bar, but not the control centre. It's just a bit annoying because that's how I usually adjust my brightness. I've tried turning it off and on again, tried updating the computer, tried turning dark mode on/off, tried turning night shift on/off. This is what it looks like:
