Track pad not working

My 2009's MacBook Pro Trackpad stopped working a while ago. I use a wireless mouse for clicks and navigation. However, I have to download a file to a thumb drive to update the computer in my car. I can't fit the mouse usb interface and the thumb drive usb plug into the Mac at the same time.

Is it possible to use a keyboard command for a click since my trackpad doesn't respond?

Thanks,

So your problem is that you can't connect the flash drive and mouse receiver at the same time, because the flash drive body is too wide? If it is, that's a pretty common problem.

I'd recommend using a USB hub. It would also help for the times where you need to connect more than 2 USB devices. Possibly one with wires or some arrangement that doesn't place the ports close to each other. Some hubs have their ports spaced really close to each other, but if it's 3 or 4 ports then you should have no problem connecting two devices even if both are really wide. I connect both my wireless mouse receiver and a USB flash drive at the same time to a hub, which leaves my remaining MBP port for a high current device. There are also "Medusa" hubs or ones that lay out the ports in different directions. I like this one:

Alternately you could use a USB extension cable to connect the flash drive.

Thanks, I found a repair shop that is going to replace the track pad

Unfortunately, neither Apple nor their network of authorized service providers will do it given how old your machine is. However, there are plenty of shops that can do that repair with salvage parts.

I’d still recommend a USB hub. They can come in handy. I specifically have certain types to deal with the width of USB flash drives.
