User Name or password for imap.aol.com incorrect

I had the same problem after I reset my AOL password. Afterwards, I couldn't sign on to AOL using my iPhone with the new password. I deleted the account and started over several times, but kept getting the same error message "username or password for imap.aol.com is incorrect." I changed my password again, but nothing worked. I googled it and tried everything. I changed port numbers. I deleted accounts. I deleted and added servers, but I continued to get the same error message. It was frustrating as ****. After devoting a significant portion of two days looking for an answer. Finally, I remembered a code I saved when I set up up AOL 2-step verification. That didn't fix it either, but it lead me to this solution.

Try this:

Sign on to your AOL account

Select "Account security"

Select "Manage app passwords"

Select "iPhone email"

Select "Generate" (a password)

You will be presented with a 16-digit code

Save it, write it down, screen shot it, whatever

Now on your iPhone go to "Settings>Accounts and Passwords>Add Account>Aol."

Enter your AOL information : Name>Email>Password>Description .....BUT.....

Instead of entering your AOL password - use the new 16-digit code you generated

That should fix it.

Good luck.

It is a very, very bad idea to post an email address in this public forum that is accessible to 6 billion users of the Internet. Especially since it's an Apple ID, so now any of those 6 billion can work on stealing your identity and your private data. I've asked the hosts to hide it.

Also, as your post has absolutely nothing to do with an AOL account it would be better to post your question in a new message.
