Cleaning the inside of a MacBook Pro

So... I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro that runs pretty slowly, but I just upgraded the RAM and it definitely seems to be working better. Hopefully I can work up the confidence to upgrade to a SSD but that's for another day. My question right now is that as I was upgrading my RAM and inside of my computer I noticed it was DUSTY AF, like it was kind of disgusting, and I desperately wanted to clean it up, but I didn't know how to without screwing things up. so I guess my question here is it is possible to clean the inside of the computer? Whats the best way to do it? Do you have to worry about static free environment and what not?
