Help required creating curved effect

I remember seeing something early on with a vid clip being wrapped around a ball. i would think that you can do it. I am most certain that you can with motion2. it would be easy to do in AE, Shake and combustion. I wanted to duplicate the text behavior from the intro's of the original motion and current theme at the time. I was able to do an 80% I duplicated the depth and corner meeting of text going toward and away from the screen. What I found was that the controls only worked from the editor a certain way. I think that they fixed it in 2 with the semi 3d control. I would think that my get you close. But for real 3D depth AE, Shake and combusion.

I remembered something I'd posted a year or so ago:



This shows the use of the Displace filter along with a gradient filled rectangle to bend an image. I used a copy of the same rectangle to provide some shading...

Quick sidebar question, Patrick...

Did you just take a buncha clips, scale 'em down, evenly space them, then throw all into a layer which you then applied the bulge filter to? Or am I missing an easy plug-in?

EDIT: I'm sure you can use the replicator as well...but isn't that just for one clip?

I used the Replicator on a long (30 minute) clip and set the start frame to random...
