Anyone using Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro with OSX??

Neither with macam component nor IOXperts driver the Quickcam Pro 5000 works. At least last year November when I tried on a MacBook Pro.

I've got one on my G5 & one on my G4 both working with iChatUSBCam. Reading about this elsewhere, make sure you get one with the MS "Vista" logo on the box and ©2006, these conform to the webcam standard, which the new builtin iSights also conform to, so the driver is builtin to OS X 10.4.3 and above, you just need iChatUSBCam in order for iChat to recognize the cam.

Thank you very much for your post; I went out and bought this webcam after reading about your experience. I can confirm that the Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro works with my G5 (2 x 2 GHz) and iBook G4 (1.2 GHz). I purchased it at Best Buy on sale for $60; every one they had came in the MS Vista & ©2006 packaging. I initially had problems with it working with my G5, but it had no problems working with my iBook. I eventually traced the problem on my G5 to a screwy Tiger installation (I had been having weird USB2 issues for quite a while in fact), and after I reinstalled Tiger, the Quickcam 5000 works just fine on my G5 too.

As for application compatibility... the camera is recognized without me needing to install a driver when using Skype, Yahoo Messenger, QuickTime Pro, and HackTV. However, when I try to use it with iChat, iChat always claims the webcam is busy - from all the other posts it seems iChatUSBCam should allow the camera to work with iChat. I personally haven't tried it because I use Skype to video chat with my GF (who uses a PC and the PC version of Skype). It's a little choppy, but I think it's because I'm on cable and she's on DSL. Also, I'm willing to live with some choppiness to use a $60 webcam instead of paying the ridiculous $300 it takes to buy an iSight on fleaBay nowadays.

Power Mac G5 (2 x 2GHz) NOT dual-core Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just bought the Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000,
it works out of the box with:

- OSX 10.4.9
- plug it in a computer USB-port (not a hub)
- Make sure you buy the LATEST version of the pro 5000 (the one with a Windows Vista sign on the box). This camera is USB Video Class compatible
- iChatUSBcam is no longer needed for ichat in OSX 10.4.9

The Pro 5000 is one of the cams with two incarnations. The original model didn't have UVC support and the newer ones do. They look identical otherwise.
(UVC support is what you need to use it on the Mac.)

You can see on this Logitech webpage that there are two models and only the second model number has UVC support.

I was at a Mac reseller and they recommended this camera to me as a good alternative to the iSight. I have to agree that it is! It worked without any drivers... but I have experienced a strange occurrence.

On occasion, when chatting with someone using a low-end MacBook, the video of me is shrunken inside of a black box. So if the video chat window is say 640x480, the actual video of me is only 320x240 in the center of the window, and the rest is black. This doesn't happen when i've chatted with old iBook G4s, or even other black MacBooks...

Any idea why something like that would happen?

I have a Stills camera that outputs PAL TV signals and run it through a DV converter.

Part of this process brings up a similar "Edge" to my pic.

I would guess it's part of the iChatUSBCam process that effects certain processors that may not have some of the abilities that later machines have. (Quartz, Multithreading ?)
