How to get rid of icon with alarm clock on dock?

Last year it was suggested that you couldn’t disable this feature.

I’ve turned off the show recent apps button etc but still it happens and is very annoying.

Anyone got any idea how to prevent this?

Hi there, 26bosman!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! That is a great question you have about turning off the recently used apps on your iPad and I am happy to help! Check out this article with information about how to Use Multitasking on your iPad. Specifically:

Turn Multitasking features on or off

To turn Multitasking features on or off, go to Settings > General > Multitasking & Dock, then you can do the following:

  • Allow Multiple Apps: Turn off if you don't want to use Slide Over or Split View.
  • Persistent Video Overlay: Turn off if you don't want to use Picture in Picture.
  • Gestures: Turn off if you don't want to use Multitasking gestures to see the app switcher, return to the Home screen, and more.
  • Show Suggested and Recent Apps: Turn on to see recently used apps on the right side of the Dock.

Have a wonderful day!

Welcome back, 26bosman!

Thanks for getting back to us! Since you are still having the issue, here are a few more suggestions to try.

First, it's a good idea to make sure your iPad is updated to the latest iOS version:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, if you still see an app suggestion with a clock badge in the Dock, try removing the Siri App Suggestions widget from the Today screen. For help with removing widgets, see Use widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch :

Add or remove widgets in the Today View

You can add and remove widgets and even reorder them so your favorite ones are at the top.

  1. Swipe right over the Home screen or Lock screen.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Edit.
  3. To add a widget, tap User uploaded file. To remove a widget, tap User uploaded file. To reorder your widgets, touch and hold User uploaded file next to the apps and drag them in the order that you want.
  4. To finish, tap Done.
After you've removed the Siri App Suggestion widget, use your iPad for a while to see if the app suggestion still appears.

Keep us posted on the results!

It’s a Siri learning thing. The alarm/timer means iOS/Siri thinks this is an app you use regularly at a particular time of day. So, it sticks the icon of that app on the Dock around the time of day you use it. All in the idea this makes it easier to access. I had it doing that for the local newspaper and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of. It certainly wasn’t ”easier” to get at when the normal app icon for the newspaper was literally right above the Dock.

Took a fair amount of searching around the web to find the correct answer.

How to stop it. First, be on the iOS desktop. Swipe right to the widgets. Scroll the screen up if necesarry to see the Edit button and tap that. Tap the red minus button next to Siri so it stops trying to be so “helpful”. The timer induced icons should disappear.
